Matthew 2
Immanuel - The God Of Solidarity

An angel of the Yahweh declares “they will call him Immanuel (which means God with us)” (Matthew 1:23), and two scenes unfold - dramatic, disarming and prophetic - in the first, we see three kings, pagan gentiles from a foreign land bowing down to behold their king. Then in the second, we see this king thrown into exile, a refugee, an outcast. We see in Christ an incarnate God who stands in solidarity with those on the margins because that is where this God exists. This is Immanuel.
