Jonah :
How does he keep making it into children's Bibles?
The Jonah we meet in the biblical text is not the hero of my children's Bible.
He's insular, exclusive and judgmental.
When commanded to share the gospel with a group of people he despises, he can only manage 4 words in Hebrew.
Yet that doesn't mean we can't learn something from him: don't be like Jonah.
Instead, be like the "pagans" he abhorred - merciful, willing to repent, and compassionate towards outsiders.
Now, doesn't that sound more like Jesus?
